Most of this site holds nothing about you at all. You can read every explainer, work through the questions and read the timeline without an account, and none of that is recorded against you. The part that does hold personal data is the directory, and this page is about that part.

What is held, and why

Your email address

Held so you can sign in. There is no password on this site — we send a link to your address instead, and clicking it signs you in. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b): it is what makes the free service you asked for work at all.

Giving it is neither a legal nor a contractual requirement. Nothing happens if you do not: you simply do not have an account, and everything except the directory works without one.

Your listing

If you publish a listing, it holds the name you give, the country, the ways to contact you, the languages you work in, and whatever you write in the description. The legal basis is again Art. 6(1)(b), and it is published on purpose — the listing being readable is the whole point of it.

Your listing is public. Anyone can read it and search engines can index it. Only the ways to contact you are held back, and those are shown to people who are signed in. You can take the listing down at any moment and it disappears from this site immediately — but copies already taken by search engines are not ours to delete, so we do not pretend otherwise.

Who looked at whose contact details

When a signed-in account is shown a listing's contact details, one line is recorded: which account, which listing, what time. Nothing about what was said afterwards, because conversations happen by email between the two of you and never touch this site.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest in noticing when somebody works through the whole directory collecting addresses to spam. These lines are deleted automatically after 90 days.

Reports about a listing

If you report a listing, we keep what you sent so we can look at it and, if we act, tell the person affected why. You do not have to say who you are.

Cookies

One cookie, called sid, set when you sign in and holding a random identifier and nothing else. It is what keeps you signed in. There is no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie and no tracking of any kind, which is why this site never asks you to accept anything.

Nothing on these pages is loaded from anywhere else — no fonts from a font service, no maps, no embedded videos, no scripts from other companies. Your browser talks to this site and to nobody else.

Who else sees it

The company that runs our outgoing mail server handles the sign-in messages, because that is what delivering an email means. The company hosting the server stores the data at rest. Nobody else receives it. We do not sell it, share it or send it outside the European Union.

How long it is kept

• Account and listing: until you delete them. Delete the account and both go.
• Who-looked-at-whom lines: 90 days, then deleted automatically.
• Sign-in links and codes: they stop working after minutes and are deleted the moment they are used.
• Server logs: short, and kept only as long as running the server needs.

What you can ask for

You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, ask us to stop using it, object to the who-looked-at-whom logging, or ask for your data in a portable form. Write to us.

Deletion here is genuinely complete. There are no invoices, no accounts payable and no tax records tied to this site, so nothing has to be kept back.

If you are unhappy with how we handle it

You can complain to a supervisory authority. In Austria that is the Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Wien, Austria.

Decisions made by machine

None. Nothing on this site profiles you or decides anything about you automatically. The questions you answer in the check are held in the part of the address after the #, which browsers never send to a server — so your answers stay in your own browser and we never see them.
